So, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill all just HAPPENED to be in London this weekend, just as J.J. Abrams’ first installment in the new Star Wars trilogy is about to begin shooting at nearby Pinewood Studios. Harrison “Han Solo” Ford was photographed at London’s Hakkasan and then was seen in Grosvernor’s Square, chatting with crew members from London’s air ambulance. Then Carrie “Leia” Fischer Tweeted “So my dog Gary has been spotted in London, but apparently without me. Who has he been seeing? Let me know if you have any clues.” Finally, Mark “Skywalker” Hamill wasn’t caught out in public but Peter Serafinowicz, the actor who provided the voice of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace, blew Hamill’s cover on Instagram: “Met up with @HamillHimself in London today. I wonder why he’s here.” With this image. No casting news has been confirmed, even though principal photography is starting soon. OK, so you’ve heard this news? It’s all over LA – New York, not so much. So, Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, owns the Dorcester Collection, some of the world’s most upscale hotels, that include the Principe de Savoia in Milan, the Dorchester, Le Meurice, the Bel Air AND the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel. He has just decided to implement laws, based on the Islamic Shariah, that call for flogging of women who have abortions and the death by stoning of those who engage in gay or lesbian sex. Needless to say, there are a more few gay people and MANY gay rights supporters that frequent these hotels. The protests have centered on the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Bel Air the boycott has gained more traction in the last few days when Ellen DeGeneres said on Facebook that she will not patronize the hotels. The Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF) has also said it will not hold its Global Women’s Rights Awards event, scheduled for next Monday, at the Beverly Hills Hotel and on The Talk, Sharon Osbourne also announced her support for the boycott. In addition, a major LGBT rights organization, the Gill Action Fund, has cancelled plans to hold a meeting of major donors to gay rights campaigns at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Shoe designer Brian Atwood and fashion designer Peter Som also have called for those in the fashion industry to boycott the Dorchester Collection hotels, which are preferred venues for fashion buyers and journalists attending fashion shows in Paris and Milan. “We cannot hold a human rights and women’s rights event at a hotel whose owner would institute a penal code that fundamentally violates women’s rights and human rights,” said Feminist Majority Foundation President Eleanor Smeal. The Beverly Hills Hotel has responded to boycott threats by saying that it adheres to the laws of the country in which it is located and that laws in other countries, such as Brunei, have no impact on how it is operated. Newspapers in Beverly Hills have been mute on boycott and John Seitz, senior editor of the Beverly Hills Courier, said his newspaper will not write about the boycott “We hardly want to promote that,” Seitz said. “We don’t particularly want to promote boycotts of our institutions here … We try to promote our local businesses.” The Beverly Hills Weekly also hasn’t written about the boycott.
Just a little background on the Sultan, once the richest man in the world. He lives in the Istana Nurul Iman palace, the largest palace in the world, much bigger than the Vatican palace. It has 1788 rooms, 257 bathrooms and is 2,152,782 sq. feet. So this guy gets what he wants (like 250 bathrooms) so, I can’t imagine this is going to change. If only there was a “hotel commissioner”, like the NBA’s Adam Silver who could force the Sultan to sell. Well, thanks, Marvin Davis. He’s the guy sold the hotel to the Sultan. (via WeHoville)

Wowlebrity and everyone’s favorite Pop Art Artist Sham Ibrahim gave a portrait to Boy George last night.
Says Sham.”I gave my childhood idol Boy George a portrait at the after-party to his concert at the Mayan Theatre. The party was hosted by legendary event planner Rich Royal and it was a star-studded, glamorous affair!! Adam Lambert was there and I watched as he and Boy George took selfies of each other and gabbed on. I was invited to the event by my dear friend Billboard Icon Angelyne. We arrived in her pink corvette, but she only stayed long enough to say a quick hello to Boy George, and refused to enter the venue!! I spotted many of my favorite Hollywood socialites at the party including Robert Mapelthorpe model Constance, Bryan Rabin, and my old pal 1990s MTV VJ Jesse Camp. I was so happy to see everyone and so happy to give Boy George his portrait! I was terrified Boy George didn’t like his portrait when he told me he would sign and I could sell it. He explained that he loved the portrait, but doesn’t like to keep pictures of himself because he considers it vain! I told him I was, indeed, a starving artist and could use the money! After he signed it, I promptly sold it on the spot before I even lefty the party! Cheers to Rich Royal for putting on a fabulous event and cheers to Boy George for his triumphant return to music. After all THIS IS WHAT HE DOES!!!!”

We all have to find our place in the sun. For some it’s work, for others it’s parenthood. Some seek spiritual enlightenment. Ryan Beitz of Moscow, Idaho, has found his raison d’être. His mission in life is to collect every single VHS copy of the 1994 movie Speed, starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bukllock. So far, he has over 500 VHS tapes and 26 laser discs. (He doesn’t really care about those discs, though, they’re just there to trade for more VHS cassettes.)
What started one Christmas as gag gifts for his family (“Wouldn’t it be funny if I gave everyone VHS copies of Speed?”) quickly escalated into a frenzied sort of mono-mania when he realized he couldn’t go through it – HE COULDN’T GIVE THEM AWAY.
From VICE:
“I realized it was really fascinating to have that many, like, copies of a thing,” said Ryan. “What really cemented it was when I went down to another pawn shop, and they had, like, 30 copies. I said, ‘I’ll take them all’. They sold them to me for 11 cents a copy.” Ryan hasn’t looked back since. He said that he has about 550 now, but he hasn’t really counted them because, ‘who really cares’?
As much as he loves collecting the tapes, he doesn’t really want to waste money on what he realizes is a useless and impossible hobby. “I don’t want to spend money on this. If a copy is more than $4, I’ll just steal it,” he said. “But that’s not going to make me stop. That’d be the same as somebody saying like, ‘It’s impossible to make the world a good place, so I’m not going to try.’ If the idea is awesome, I’m just going to devote myself to it, regardless.”
Ryan is calling his bizarre attempt the ‘World Speed Project’. In his own words, he doesn’t ‘give a shit’ whether this is practical or not. In fact, he believes that his project has a deep connection to Freudian psychology. “I say it’s a practice in repetition compulsion, which is Freud. Basically, Freud thinks that the goal of your unconscious is to repeat. You just have to repeat over and over again. I can’t remember exactly why. I think it has something to do with eros – you know, the life force or whatever?”
“The World Speed Project is satisfied by a compulsion to repeat because when you get one, you want to get another! And another! And another! Like the bus in Speed, we collectively cannot – and will not – stop,” said Ryan. He is now running a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to make his bus look like the one in the movie. He also wants to buy auto insurance so he can tour his bus and his collection of Speed tapes around America. He strongly believes that the World Speed Project is against the philosophy that everything in the world needs to be useful.

It’s a RADIO awards show – on TV, voted on by the public, so I guess it’s like music’s People’s Choice Awards. The first heart award went to Rhinanna for Best Hip Hop/ R & B, she was a no-show to accept (apparently stuck in traffic on the 405 – for real) because she turned up later and turned out to be the night’s biggest winner taking home Fan Army and Artist of the Year. Pharrell gave her a run for her money though, taking home the Innovator Award. People were interviewed about Pharrell and they said SO many nice things you would have thought it was an “In Memorial”. Speaking of dead celebrities, a new Michael Jackson song was premiered (I can’t remember the name because it was totally forgettable) and Usher who, I’ll admit, is an AMAZING dancer, shuffled around a bit as a tribute, but if anyone is inheriting the King of Pop’s crown, Pharrell is first in line, not Usher. Sorry. The whole thing was a friggin’ MARATHON clocking in at 3 hours. (It would have felt even longer but thanks to Mr. DVR, I could FFW through the dull acceptances and country performances, like frat-boy Luke Bryant and ham-bone Blake Shelton.) So, Allison Leona Flood Lesh and Kristi Lyn Lesh were legally married in DC in 2010. Then they moved to a state that refuses to recognize their marriage because they are both women; Texas. (I’m from Texas, so if it seems like I’m bashing the state, I’m allowed, OK?) They decided to have a child, and Kristi was artificially inseminated. Then, Allison and Kristi’s marriage went south. Allison filed for a divorce last year, seeking joint custody of their child. Kristi argued that, because Texas’ constitution bans recognition of same-sex marriages, the court could not even CONSIDER Allison’s divorce petition — or her request for joint custody of the child. Nice use of a F’d up law for your own advantage (I blame her lawyer) So, Judge Barbara Hanson Nellermoe declared Texas’ ban on marriage equality unconstitutional. Among other things, the judge said that marriage discrimination imposes unconstitutional burdens on the children of same-sex couples
“[i]mmutable protections for the children born of same-sex marriages require the same protections as those born from other marital and intimate relationships, e.g., education, child support, hereditary rights, tax benefits.”
An appeals court stayed Nellermore’s ruling just two days after she handed it down, at the request of Attorney General Greg Abbott. The Leshes’ case also demonstrates why the right to divorce is one of the most important rights afforded to married couples. A legal divorce allows their disputes to be resolved by a neutral judge — rather by fights or money maneuvering. It also ensures that custody disputes will be resolved with the child’s best interests in mind — not on the basis of the fact that some states do not believe their all married couples are deserve the equal protection of the law.
