Today is my little brother’s birthday. Happy birthday, Tad! (He’s 50! I’m older. Don’t ask, don’t tell.) The reason I mention it here is that we both are gay. I remember very vividly coming out to my Mom and the first thing she asked me, after saying “You’re kidding!?” twice, was if my brother was gay too? Tad and I had discussed it beforehand so, I effectively came out for both of us.
Anyway, Adam and Luke Monastero are twin brothers and they both are gay too. (I’m not sure how much this happens. I know both straight and gay twins. Once I was at the theater with a long-married gay couple and my best friend and while talking we discovered that we ALL 4 had gay siblings.) The 21-year-olds decided to break the news to their parents together live on their YouTube channel.
“We are a little bit shocked and surprised,’ says their mom. “Are you sure? … Have you been with a girl?” In the end Mom says, “you can’t live your life for someone else … you guys have your own life to live. I’m just glad you’re not keeping it from us anymore.”
Their dad echoes Mom’s sentiments, although it’s hard to hear what he is saying, as he never stops eating chicken. Watch.
