It ranks as one of the most surreal moments in pop culture history. Twenty years ago today, football legend OJ Simpson lead authorities on a wild chase across LA’s freeways after being asked to surrender in connection to the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, the hunky Ron Goldman. The chase was broadcast live on television around the world, and it remains on of those “Where were you?” moments that people of a certain generation love to trot out at parties. (Where was I? I had been up for four days – which made it all the more surreal – and I remember the manager of the Tunnel brought a TV down from the offices and the entire club stopped to watch).
During the trial process, World of Wonder made a documentary for the BBC called OJ Mania: The Media Trial of OJ Simpson. It was a probing analysis of the media mayhem and madness surrounding the OJ Simpson story, raising key questions about society, justice, and morality in the age of television.
