Yes, anti-gay marriage clerk Kim Davis is nominated for TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year award following a widespread nomination campaign by her supporters. As you may remember, the Kentucky county clerk was the centre of arguably the year’s most high profile LGBT story, after she was jailed for six nights after violating a federal court order telling her not to discriminate when issuing marriage licenses in the wake of the Supreme Court’s historic ruling in June.
Liberty Counsel, the evangelical Christian litigation firm/anti-gay hate group who represented Kim in her trial, have thrown their weight behind the campaign, saying:
“Who more than Kim Davis has influenced the news in the past year?
Kim Davis inspired a nation and the world to fight for religious liberty when she chose a prison cell rather than sacrificing her conscience.”
I know –BARF! FYI, winners of the annual award – which recognizes the MOST ‘newsworthy’ person of the year, not the BEST – have previously included other lovely human beings like Vladimir Putin and Adolf Hitler. The final decision will made by TIME magazine’s editors, and announced next Wednesday, December 9. (via Attitude)
