This has not been a good year for Nicholas Brendon so far. The actor best known as Xander on Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor was arrested (yet again) in Saratoga Springs, New York Wednesday when he apparently tried to choke his girlfriend after a fight. Bob Jillson, Investigations Lieutenant at Saratoga Springs Police Department, told People.
“Last night around 11:30 p.m., we got called to a nice family-owned hotel in town for a reported domestic disturbance. We got to the room and we found a 33-year-old female there by herself, and she reported that she had been in a domestic incident with Nick, and he had subsequently left before we got there. She did not have any physical injuries that we were aware of.”
Police say the girlfriend told officers she had gone to return property to Brendon and intended to leave. They say Brendon objected, took her car keys and cellphone and started choking her. They found Brendon a few blocks away from the hotel and he had to spend the night in jail. He was charged with two counts of criminal mischief and one count of obstruction of breathing along with robbery in the third degree, which is a felony. Recently, police have been called to his home on two occasions for unspecified mental health issues and he was arrested three times this year. (Notice the Lieutenant called him “Nick” he’s so familiar with him.) In June he entered rehab for substance abuse, depression and alcoholism.
On August 26, the actor taped a segment on Dr. Phil, where he was to discuss his mental health and addiction issues, but stormed off the set when he did not like Dr. Phil’s questions. Brendon wrote on Facebook after walking out of the taping…
“My illnesses and addictions are a daily struggle for me, and I am committed to working on them for the rest of my life. A big part of that is focusing on positivity. I’m the first to admit I’ve messed up, a lot, and I’ve hurt people I care about and who care about me.”
Brendon entered rehab this summer since splitting from his wife, Moonda Tee, this February. (via People)
