“This teenage girl wants to be an artist,” Willow Smith explained to i-D Magazine about what’s going on in her new music video. “They rip up the invitation to her performance that night, telling her she is never going to succeed in an artistic career and that this kind of behavior isnt acceptable in their household. The girl ignores them and does what her heart is telling her anyway.” That’s the setup. Angsty teenager gets into a fierce argument with her parents. She then blows off steam with a series of animated, energetic stage moves.
And from the YouTube description: “
Willow Smith inhabits a world fuelled by an imagination and inquisitiveness that extend far beyond her 14 years on Planet Earth. The concept and visuals for the brand new track Why Don’t You Cry were dreamed up by the indigo child herself. Directed by her serial collaborator Nuyorktricity’s Mike Vargas and styled by i-D’s Julia Sarr-Jamois, this is Willow’s world; let’s all take a trip to it!
Two sliiiiiight problems here: The bindi (no, girl. Just no) and referring to oneself as an indigo child (*GROAN*). Other than that, I suppose we should all just let Willow be Willow and take this at face value.
