I cannot, in good faith, endorse these GIFs of Kenny Brain flopping around in his underoos. They’re hot, no doubt about it, but he’s just so damn problematic. You know the story, right? How he’s gay and out and proud, HOO-RAH, but for the show he’s pretending to be straight? Because he thinks that’s how you win the game?
From the start, he’s let viewers know the truth, explaining in the show’s diary room that he is gay, but that he’s playing it straight to get further in the game. He thought that he would have more of an advantage with the girls in the house if they thought he was “showmance” material.
Apparently, though, pretending to be someone he’s not for more than a month has proved too much. On Monday, he broke down to fellow contestant Sarah Miller, saying “This is the first time in my life I’ve ever hidden who I am … I don’t want people to watch this and do the same thing. I needed to tell someone or I was going to die.”
Well, boo hoo. You shouldn’t have started such a shameful charade in the first place.
Says The Calgary Herald: “And that highlights what’s at stake here. Kenny might be doing it for the game, but he’s also sending a message to viewers of the show, which skew young, that being gay would hold him back. For decades, the LGTBQ community has fought for basic human rights, for recognition that one’s sexuality shouldn’t be grounds for discrimination. Kenny is taking those hard-won rights and shoving them back in the closet. And that’s not right.
When it comes to reality TV, it’s not correct, either. Luke Adams has competed on The Amazing Race three times and never hid his sexuality. What does he think of Kenny’s gambit?
EXACTLY. It’s a terrible thing to teach young homos, JUST TERRIBLE, sets us back DECADES. And it’s not even a winning strategy! He just might be the biggest gay villain since that OTHER infamous Kenny, Ken Mehlman.
But, oh man, whatta bulge.
