It’s been two weeks since the Dressed As A Girl world premiere hit the BFI on London‘s southbank, and the bar staff still can’t get the glitter out of the grooves at Bankside Spaces where the after party took place.

London’s gay scene royalty were out in full force for the event, it was a miracle anyone could see the film – so packed was the auditorium with Charlie Le Mindu wigs and Thierry Mugler plumes. You can read a behind-the-scenes report of the whole day here.

But MOVING ON – We’re excited to announce that a special matinee screening is now scheduled for Saturday 18th of April at the Rio Cinema in Dalston (that’s East London dear – not Brazil), and you MUST go!

The documentary follows six of East London’s alternative stars – Jonny Woo, Scottee, Holestar, the drag DJ John Sizzle and two trans party girls Pia and Amber. Filmed over six years Dressed As A Girl documents the resurgence of East London’s alternative scene while also delving into the dark and murky private lives of its members. Laughing one second and gasping the next this WoW production is the kind of film that only East London could muster.

If you can make your way to Dalston for the special matinee screening we highly recommend that you go – because after this there might be a wait to see the film as a major distributor takes it under their wing. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Colin Rothbart and some cast members.

Down the road too you have The Glory, a queer “super pub” that is owned and ran by two of the films stars – Jonny Woo and John Sizzle, so you can pop in there for a pint after the screening. There’s usually alternative cabaret onstage at 9pm and a pumping basement disco until 2am on a Saturday, so keep an eye on their Facebook page.
