Last week, former pop star/not even really a pop star Natalia Kills verbally attacked a contestant on New Zealand X Factor (which she was judging). She claimed the contestant was copying her husband (and fellow judge) Willie Moon because he was wearing a suit and tie and had slicked back his hair. Like, um, a hundred thousand other guys in pop music. It literally made NO SENSE. If anything he was copying Justin Timberlake or Mark Ronson or, I don’t know, Bryan Ferry. If anything WILLIE MOON was copying those people. BUT WHATEVS. The backlash was swift and severe. Both Natalia a Willie became more famous for being bullies than for any music they ever put out. After initially digging in their heels and refusing to apologize, they both released statements today saying, in effect, they were hired to be opinionated, it’s not their fault people don’t understand that, but they wish the contestant they mercilessly taunted all the best, blah blah blah. Standard celebrity non-apology.
