#RIP: “It’s My Party” Singer Leslie Gore Dies At 68

Singer-songwriter Lesley Gore, who topped the charts in the 60s with “It’s My Party”, has died in Manhattan at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. She came out 10 years ago. Lois Sasson, said of her partner of 33 years:

“She was a wonderful human being — caring, giving, a great feminist, great woman, great human being, great humanitarian.”

Gore was born in Brooklyn and raised in New Jersey. She was discovered by Quincy Jones and signed to Mercury Records while in her teens. Later, Gore wrote music for films, and along with her brother Michael, she co-wrote the Academy Award-nominated “Out Here On My Own” from Fame. She was 68. Go ahead, you can cry if you want to.
