Kim Kardashian landed on a lot of “worst dressed” lists this morning, after wearing a beaded, navel-grazing Balmain cape/dress to the VMAs last night. Hollywood Life called it “more boohoo than boho,” while The Gloss said “Some vindictive stylist played a cruel joke on Kim Kardashian by telling her that shoulder pads and couch upholstery are totally in for fall.” I thought it was absolutely brilliant, though. At first glance, you don’t really catch that it’s all completely beaded. And not just beaded like a pageant queen gown. We’re talking big, wooden beads. Abacus-sized beads. Suitable for hippie door curtains. I think it helps to see some other outfits from collection (below) to really get a sense of how beautifully constructed this outfit is.
And you know what? I like watching Kim step outside her comfort zone. I like seeing her wear avante-garde designs other stars wouldn’t dream of wearing on a red carpet. And the fact that KIM KARDASHIAN has become one of our biggest fashion risk takers is something I don’t think anyone saw coming. So more power to her.
You have no idea how much I DREAM AT NIGHT about these jackets. I am ROCK HARD looking at them right now.
