Nicole Kidman, of course, LOOKS nothing like Grace Kelly, SOUNDS nothing like Grace Kelly, ACTS nothing like Grace Kelly – it’s an ABSOLUTE TRAVESTY, I tell you, a MISCARIAGE OF CINEMATIC JUSTICE. I put her performance as Grace of Monaco in the Pantheon of Perverse Casting, on par with Katie Holmes’ Jackie Kennedy, Sienna Miller’s Edie Sedgewick, Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino’s Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne’s Genghis Khan, and Kevin Spacey’s Bobby Darin. It’s sick, sad, and WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
I get that sometimes an actress is supposed to inhabit the role or just give the impression of the person they’re portaying but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. You might as well get Rebel Wilson or Viola Davis if that’s the route you’re going. At least THEY’D be entertaining.
And the plot? From Coming Soon: “Grace of Monaco is focused on the personal story of former Hollywood film star Grace Kelly during a dispute between Prince Rainer of Monaco and Charles de Gaulle over tax laws in the 1960s” which zzzzzz, sounds like a real heart-pounding, whiz-bang, edge-of-your-seat, thriller there, guys. I can picture it now: “General! The Monegasques have just included standard and itemized deductions AS WELL AS dependent exemptions in the amount of their taxable income!” “My GOD! Mobilize all CPA units AT ONCE!” Can’t wait.
Is there ANYTHING positive about this trailer? ANYTHING AT ALL? Well… The location photography is amazing. And a couple of her outfits are gorg. But other than that, it’s a snooze fest. Watch it below, I DARE YOU.
